Genetically modified by Chinese scientists, cow produces mother’s milk

Mother’s milk produced by cows. No, this is not a joke. Scientists at the Agriculture University of China were able to create milking cows, genetically modified to produce milk with the same properties of the milk produced by our mothers. In order to do this, human genes were introduced to the DNA of milking cow embryos and implanted into adult animals. According to researchers, the “mother’s cow milk” may become useful to women who are not able to breast feed. It will be also a better substitute to traditional powder milk, because it will have the same essential nutrients that help the development of babies’ immune system and reduces the risk of infections. The scientists tasted the milk and confirmed a stronger, sweeter flavor than that of normal cow’s milk. If the scientists’ prediction is correct, in less than 10 years, the milk may be commercialized. The news are very controversial and brings up many ethical issues on genetic experimentation.
