Created in August of this year, when the first class was formed in São Paulo, the online environmental activism school is an initiative by an independent group, committed to increasing the number of people who act in favor of sustainability. The school gives online classes with debates and exercises about contemporary activism and sustainable practices, besides weekly immersion sessions. And for the next course to happen, you’re help is fundamental.
To finance the offline classes in Brasília, which happen from the 6th to the 12th of November, the school will need R$16.500 thousand, which will finance scholarships for the members. Most part of the money is donated by NGOs and partner institutions, but you can also contribute with values that go from R$ 10 to R$ 3.000. As a thank you for the money donated, the supporter will receive “gifts” like shirts, mugs, stickers and a participation in one of the courses online modules.
Mainly, the school wants people’s involvement. “We seek more than just donators, we want partners for the cause”, says Marcelo Marquesini, the project’s creator. To be part of this, the registration must be done through the site Ativismo.org. The classes in Brasília are already full, but there are still spaces for the classes in Manaus.
The course
According to Marcelo Marquesini, the Activism in favor of Sustainability course was built to be used in three different cities: São Paulo, Brasília and Manaus. The classes last two months and are divided in three stages: online journey, immersion and campaign project. “As of this project, our intention is to supply the activism techniques and methods used in campaigns, organizations and social mobilization in favor of sustainability”, he explains.
The first meeting was had between the 11th and 18th of September in the capital of São Paulo and united 26 participants in an intense week of immersion. Besides the students, national personalities who support the project were part of it, for example Marina Silva, who is one of the spokespeople in the event.
Also worth remembering that the ex-senator, Marina Silva, is also part of the Global Sustainability Forum, and will talk about “Sustainable and Viable Development” in the morning of November 13th.
