Lynyrd Skynyrd with their first grade rock – and HOLE, fronted by Courtney Love – will play for you!

The SWU Music & Arts Festival 2011 lineup just won’t stop growing, and we’ve got two more atractions to announce!

Lynyrd Skynyrd is “just” one of the biggest and most important bands of the southern rock scene and, take note, will be bringing it down on the 13th!

And for the New Stage, also on the 13th, Hole, band fronted by the controversial widow of Kurt Cobain, Coutrney Love, and one of the main names in alternative rock of the 90s and that, two years ago, came back!

And all of this on the same day!

Lynyrd Skynyrd

Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the oldest american rock bands till playing and a Constant reference of southern rock, known for hits like “Sweet Home Alabama” and “Free Bird”. The group gained notoriety in the 70s, being formed in 1964, in Florida, when Ronnie Van Zant, Robert Burns, Gary Rossington, Larry Junstrom and Allen Collins joined to make music.

Lynyrd Skynyrd released five albums and, in 1977, three days after the release of their sixth album, an airplane crash resulted in the death of Ronnie Van Zant and two other members. The band would take 10 years to come back from the shock, bringing Johnny Van Zant, Ronnie’s brother, as lead vocals.

After another hiatus, they came back in 91. With more than 40 years of history, Lynyrd Skynyrd is one of the largest names in American rock and still inspire bands today. Mixing blues and hard rock, they are still active, constantly releasing new albums – their last release, the album God & Guns, reached the stores in 2009, receiving great critical and fan acclaim.

Hole

Think about a North American rock band, formed in 1989 by Coutrney Love and Eric Erlandson: that’s Hole. Los Angeles natives, the group started playing in bars and clubs all over the area. The first single, “Retard Girl” was released independently. In 1990 Hole signed their first record deal and played their first tour across the USA, releasing their first album the following year.

In October of 91, Courtney started a relationship with Kurt Cobain, frontman of the legendary Nirvana, one month before they started their first European tour. The following years were filled with success for Hole and personal dramas leading to Cobain’s suicide in 94. In this period, they signed to Geffen, were celebrated by critics and won awards. Despite the problems, the band came back on the same year, and on the following year, Courtney would start a career in movies.

In a little more than a decade, before their 2002 hiatus, the band produced three Studio albums which sold eight million copies, thirteen singles, three EPs, a compilation album, 10 music videos and six indications to the Grammys. In June of 2009, Courtney Love announced a Hole reunion and, in 2010, they released their new album, Nobody’s Daughter, confirming yet again the bands huge musical personality, and the talent of their vocalist.
